Depending on the size of your family, your grocery bill might be minimal or a small fortune from week to week. For us, it’s just me and David so we aren’t buying food for a lot of people but even then, our grocery bills were ranging from $75-$200 per week. Our budget is $100 per week but I’ll admit that we use it more as a goal rather than a firm number we can’t exceed. #debtfreelife
Here are 3 ways I’ve been able to cut down on our grocery bill by $25 or more every week.
1) Online grocery shopping – This has had the biggest impact on our spending. Just think, how often do you buy something because it’s on sale or looks good but it wasn’t actually on your list? Then you get to the checkout and are stunned by how much was in your little cart. By online shopping, you stick to your list, don’t add extras, and can see the final total adding up bit by bit. If you go over, no worries, just take something out of the cart.
2) Grocery delivery – My favorite local grocery store is also the most expensive. It has the best in-store shopping experience. Everything is clean, their food is typically in good shape, great customer service, etc. By using Instacart for grocery delivery, you pay a small fee to send someone else to the store for you. This means you can send them to a more cost-effective store like Aldi! I hate shopping in Aldi but I love their prices. I am happy to pay an extra couple dollars to have someone not only save me a ton of time but also shop for better prices. Don’t forget to be a decent human and tip your shopper.
3) Create a meal plan based off of cheaper foods. Rather than make a list here, I actually have a whole ebook dedicated to this topic! Click HERE and enter your email at the bottom of the page to download.
