If you follow any health social media influencers, you’ve probably heard of the celery juice “miracle” going around for a few months. To my knowledge, it was all started by Anthony Williams, aka the Medical Medium. He claims that if someone drinks 16oz of plain celery juice every morning, it can have a ton of benefits. I won’t list them all here, but they range from gut health, liver detox, skin conditions healing, weight loss, even diseases being healed all from celery juice. After seeing the transformation photos floating around on the internet and all of these pretty impressive claims, I decided to try it for myself.
How to make it
I get this question frequently. Y’all, it’s celery juice. That’s it. I literally put my washed celery in my Breville compact juicer and drink up.
Taste
I’m not going to pretend like I like the taste. It’s pretty awful at first but you will get used to it the longer you stick with it. You’re not supposed to drink it over ice, but I can’t drink it without ice. It’s too gross without it. I did have a moment of truth with myself that I was spending money on something I really hated the taste of, so I have chosen to break the rules a bit. Here’s my recipe, but just know that it is not the way Medical Medium recommends drinking it.
- 1 bunch of celery
- 1/2 apple
- 1 nub of ginger
- 1/4 lemon
I actually enjoy the taste when I make it like this, so if you’re struggling with taste, try it.
My Results
*Disclaimer: I also quit the birth control pill while I was testing celery juice due to some crazy side-effects I was having so some of my results may be because of that.* The reasons I started celery juice in the first place was for some digestive and skin problems I was having. At first, my stomach was going pretty crazy, which is to be expected if you suspect you have a lot of toxins in your body (in my case, synthetic hormones). But I definitely felt like I was cleansing of a lot of crap and that felt amazing.
Second, my eczema actually did clear up completely, which is pretty insane because it was something I had dealt with for awhile without any improvement. Even now, not juicing celery every day, it has not come back!
What about now?
I was juicing every single day, but that was getting too time-consuming and expensive buying 7 bunches of celery every week. I think my grocery store thought of me as the crazy celery lady. Now I juice 2-3 times per week and actually really enjoy it!
If you think celery juice might help you for whatever health problem you are dealing with, I’d definitely give it a try. I’m glad it introduced me to the world of juicing too because it’s a fun health hobby to have! Let me know if you try it.
