How I heard about Curology
I had seen influencers talk about Curology before but I rarely buy products because an influencer tells me to. However, one ad was particularly eye-catching because this girl’s skin had a huge acne transformation. Fast forward to some time in November, I saw another ad pop up for 30 days for $5 and I remembered the girl’s transformation photos. I knew they would want me to do a subscription but I figured for $5 I’d try it for a month and cancel before the subscription kicked in.
My Skin Background
I’ve never had terrible skin, thankfully. Sure, I had acne as a teen but it wasn’t *that* bad compared to many girls, and most of my bad acne was on my back/shoulders which was easy to cover most of the time. As an adult, most of my acne is hormone-related. I’ll get a couple zits now and then, but they will last foreverrrrr and leave scarring behind. So rude. I’ve never had a formal skincare routine beyond a simple cleanser. Fancy expensive moisturizers and such seemed like a waste of money, and I still feel that way.
So with that being said, why try Curology? I thought it might be nice to get rid of the scarring and prevent acne.
How It Works

Curology is a 3-step system, including a prescription product. You fill out a questionnaire with photos and a dermatologist (shoutout to you, Jennifer) actually creates a custom formula for you which is why you can’t find it at a retail store. So you have a cleanser, a custom formula, and a moisturizer; applied in that order.
My custom formula is 0.25% zinc pyrithione, 1% clindamycin, and 4% niacinamide:
“Zinc pyrithione works by blocking the multiplication of unwanted bacteria and fungi like Pityrosporum — going straight to a root cause of acne for many people. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, reducing irritation and redness that further aggravate acne.” (Curology.com)
“Clindamycin is a powerful antibiotic, perfect for battling Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), an acne-causing bacterium that camps out in your pores. Simply put, bacteria are a major cause of acne. Antibiotics kill bacteria.” (Curology.com)
“Think of niacinamide as a builder. When UV rays and free radicals damage the structure of skin, this handy antioxidant does a top-notch repair job. One of the most thoroughly researched anti-aging ingredients out there, niacinamide has been shown to fight fine wrinkles, redness, and especially dark spots.” (Curology.com)
The ingredients of all products are SUPER clean. No fragrances. No sketchy ingredients. That’s a huge reason I was okay with trying it.
First Impressions
I thought a 3-step system was a bit too high maintenance for me, but it’s really not. The cleanser takes off my eye makeup too which is nice. It feels kind of like aloe gel and I use about a nickel sized amount. It doesn’t foam up or anything, but it works great. My skin feels super clean after using it. I also have a little scrubby brush I use if I’m wearing a lot of makeup to help break things up. The custom formula feels like a smooth moisturizer. I use one pump on my whole face. The moisturizer also feels like a gel. A little goes a long way. One pump is plenty.

I liked the simplicity, but I noticed a difference just after one use. I woke up the next day and my skin was SUPER soft. It felt amazing. Throughout the that month, my acne disappeared and never came back, even through hormonal cycles.
After reconsidering the price: $60 for 2 months at a time, I was sold. I think that is very reasonably priced considering I absolutely love my skin. They did include zit spot patches in my trial which are additional cost if you add them to your subscription. They are great for covering redness and making a zit just look like regular skin, but I don’t really have a need for them. If you have cystic acne, you might want to check those out.
2 Months Later
I’m still LOVING it! Their customer service has been great too. One of my shipments got lost in the mail and they sent a replacement right away. I think I’ve had one zit in 2 months, and it lasted maybe 2 days total? Crazy!
If you’re considering Curology, try it! I don’t have a code or special link for ya so next time you seen an ad on social media, click on it 🙂
