It’s currently the middle of January in the midwest as I type this. Yesterday it was -25 outside. Needless to say, it’s extremely cold, dry, and my skin gets very grumpy. I’m not normally a lotion or body butter type of girl but it’s just necessary in this climate. Unfortunately, lotions are a very common product full of toxins like parabens, artificial fragrances, sulfates, and more. Solution? Make your own. This recipe also includes magnesium oil which is very good for muscle relaxation, among other things.
Homemade Body Butter
Ingredients
¾ cup loose mango butter or cocoa butter
½ cup coconut oil, room temp.
2 tablespoons magnesium oil (optional – NEVER apply straight oil to skin)
20 drops floral essential oil (like lavender or rose)
½ teaspoon natural, skin-safe food coloring like beet powder (optional)
Directions
- Add butter of choice and coconut oil to a small pot and heat on low until softened but not completely melted, stir
- Pour into a bowl and place in refrigerator for 20 minutes to firm up slightly.
- Using a stand mixer or hand beaters, whip the mixture until fluffy. Add the magnesium oil, essential oil and coloring, if using, and continue to whip until fully combined. If mixture becomes too loose again after beating, freeze for 5 minutes.
- Place in a cute jar and rub wherever needs extra moisture on your body
