I have dealt with allergies for most of my life, and beauty products can be a source of many harmful chemicals and allergens. For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why I would sneeze every time I lifted up my arm, until I realized it was because of my deodorant. Because my husband is tall, if I go to hug him, my nose ends up near his armpits (LOL), and when he was using Old Spice, the same thing would happen.
Rather than try to explain all the bad chemicals, here is an infographic that can help. I don’t own this image.
I have tried quite a few different natural deodorants and the ones I have found to be the best are Tom’s of Maine and Schmidt’s. Schmidt’s works pretty well but doesn’t last quite as long as Tom’s does. Also, if you have sensitive skin, do not get natural deodorant with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in it. It can cause a reaction/rash. In my case, I developed a sensitivity to baking soda in deodorant after a few years. Schmidt’s has a sensitive skin formula without baking soda. I don’t think Tom’s has any products with baking soda in it.
My husband just switched to the Tom’s deodorant for men. He was very hesitant because he claimed Old Spice was the only thing that worked for him. Happy to report Tom’s is working well and smells SO much better too!
